Betsuin Dance to Benefit Building Fund
Posted inby JOYCE IWASAKI
An evening of dance, music, fun and food will take place on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the San Jose Buddhist Church Gymnasium, 640 N. 5th St. (near Jackson) in Japantown.
Come and dance to and listen to the big band sounds of swing, jazz, blues, Latin, rock and roll, Motown and today’s popular tunes. The Wesley Jazz Ensemble will bring these exciting sounds. You will bring the fun and a chance to create memorable moments!
The Wesley Jazz Ensemble was formed in 1996 and was composed mostly of Boy Scouts from Troop 201 along with some adult leaders. Since then, the band has evolved into a group of dynamic and talented artists.
The stars of the Wesley Jazz Ensemble are: Wayne Adachi (director/trombone), Ted Hasegawa (trumpet/vocalist), Marilyn Hasegawa (keyboard), Grant Shimizu (guitar), Shizuko Adachi (vocalist), Dean Adachi (alto and soprano sax/keyboard), Jeff Leap (vocalist), Gary Utsumi (emcee/vocalist), Len Fujita (tenor sax), Michael Yoshihara (alto/soprano/baritone sax/vocalist), Ichiro Bakoshi (bass), Todd SooHoo (drums), Peter Horikoshi (guitar/vocalist), Darryl Noda (vocalist/guitar), Dave Brown (trombone), and Duane Takahashi (alto and tenor sax/flute).
Along with the music of the fantastic Wesley Jazz Ensemble, you will enjoy delicious food provided by San Jose Betsuin's affiliated and sponsored organizations, be able to bid on exciting silent auction items, be able to have individual or group pictures taken in the photo booth, and learn new moves during the dance lessons! So it’s more than a dance — it’s a chance to have fun!
The Betsuin gratefully acknowledges the event sponsors: Dr. and Mrs. Michael Doi, Dr. Wayne Hane, Joyce Iwasaki, Bud Mine, Mr. and Mrs. Von Miyasaki, Mr. and Mrs. Ned Satake, Gail Sueki, Dr. and Mrs. Kenneth Tan, Richard Tanaka, Yosh Uchida, and Jeff Yoshioka. Please consider joining this group of generous supporters!
