Dr. Takao “Tak” Shishino, born on May 7, 1928 in Los Angeles, served the community for almost 50 years as an optometrist. Dr. Shishino peacefully passed away in his sleep on Aug. 11, 2008 in Culver City surrounded by family.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Helen Shishino; daughters, Karen (Jeff) Jordan of Portola Valley, Calif., Linda (John) Shishino-Cruz of Moorpark, Calif., Julie Shi-shino and Laurie Shishino; two grandchildren, Alison and Connor Jordan; brother, Hayao “Hy” (Misuko “Mitzie”) Shi-shino and their three children and seven grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A memorial service honoring his life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 10 a.m. at Venice Japanese Community Center, 12448 Braddock Dr., Los Angeles, with Pastor Jim Miyabe of Venice-Santa Monica Free Methodist Church officiating.
