Rowena Nakagawa
Rowena Nakagawa, age 87, passed away peacefully at her home in Concord, surrounded by her loved ones on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008.
Rowena was born May 11, 1921 in Lafayette, CA, a daughter of Kumetaro and Nobu Tamori. She was raised and educated in Concord, where she lived most of her life. Rowena was a professional seamstress in her early years and remained creative throughout her life. Everyone loved to receive her handmade greeting cards. She also enjoyed making and teaching others how to make fancy sushi.
Rowena was predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, Toru “Tom” Nakagawa, in December of 2004.
Lovingly survived by sisters-in-law, Shizuko “Sue” Tamori and Shizuko “Mary” Tamori of CA; brother-in-law, Isao Tateishi of Japan; nieces and nephews Setsuko Shukuya (Sei), Teruko Kawabe, Shige Kawabe (Tamiko), Sachi Garcial (Manuel) of Mexico, Raymond Tamori, Ron Tamori (Margie), Dave Tamori (Carolee), Bob Tamori (Claudia), Kathy Tamori, Anne Bryanat and Dan Tamori (Lily) of CA, Tomiko Ikehara (Yasuo), Michihiro Tateishi and Iwao Tamori (Nobuko) of Japan.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, at 3 p.m. at the Japanese American Religious & Cultural Center, 3165 Treat Blvd., Concord, CA.
