‘Ukuleles in Paradise’ Tour Comes to No. Calif.
Posted inTwo of today’s most recognizable Hawaiian music talents come together for their third California tour to celebrate the release of their latest CD. “2-3 Feet,” their third in a collection of “Ukuleles in Paradise” collaborations.
Herb Ohta Jr. and Daniel Ho bring to life the sound of just two ukuleles and combine melodic harmonies, original melodies and both traditional Hawaiian originals as well their own compositions, all influenced by the sounds of acoustic, contemporary jazz, R&B, and world music.
In Northern California, they did a benefit concert at Enchanged Villa in Lafayette on Sept. 7 and private lessons in Emeryville on Sept. 8. A concert scheduled for Sept. 9 at the Kuumbwa Jazz Center in Santa Cruz has been postponed.
Ohta will be conducting ukulele workshops at Yu-Ai Kai Senior Center, 4th Street at Jackson in San Jose's Japantown, on Thursday, Sept. 11 (workshops with Ho have been postponed). Ohta and Ho will perform at Santa Clara University's Music and Dance Building (Franklin Street at Lafayette Street) on Friday, Sept. 12, at 8 p.m. The concert is presented by Pumehana Productions. More ukulele workshops will be held on Sunday, Sept. 14, at the Sierra 2 Community Center, 2791 24th St. in Sacramento, with beginning/intermediate sessions from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m., intermediate/advanced sessions from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., and a concert from 2 to 3 p.m.
