Open Studios at Fort Mason
Posted inTaiko Fujimura, a mixed-media artist based in San Francisco, will display her works as part of San Francisco Open Studios on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 11-12, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Fort Mason Center, Building C, Room 370. (Entrance to Fort Mason is at Marina and Buchanan.)
She will be joined by Deane Wernet Design (jewelry), Allan Friedlander (painting), Anna Efanova (oil painting) and Lauren Alexander (mixed media).
Working with wood, paints, plexiglas, mirrors and found objects, Fujimura creates conceptual two- and three-dimensional collage and assemblage works as well as paintings on wood, canvas, rice paper, and several types of archival papers.
She graduated from the Japan College of Foreign Languages in Tokyo and studied fine arts at the San Francisco Art Institute and graphic design at the California College of the Arts.
Her work is strongly influenced by the Japanese aesthetic system of wabi-sabi and by Japanese calligraphy, which she has studied since the age of 6.
