Third Annual Millbrae Japanese Cultural Festival

MILLBRAE — The third annual Millbrae Japanese Culure Festival will be held on Sunday, Oct. 5, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Civic Center Plaza, 1 Library Lane.

The event, which will feature entertainment, food, and arts and crafts, is presented by the City of Millbrae and its Japanese Culture Committee, whose members include Kathleen Kimura, Akiko Soda and Yukiko Tanaka. Performers and artists from all over the Bay Area have been invited to participate.

Special guests will include Consul General Yasumasa Nagamine and Deputy Consul General Hideyuki Mitsuoka from the consulate in San Francisco.

Sponsors and partners include Bay Spo, Calbridge Trading, Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco, Ichiban Kan, JFC International, Mills High School Japanese Culture Club, Sanrio, and Sports J.

The schedule of performances is as follows:

10:40 to 11:10 a.m. — Koto performance by Ikuta School Chikushi Kai, Shimaoka Kazusa Kai, San Francisco Koto Ensemble

11:15 to 11:30 a.m. — Opening ceremony

11:35 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. — Odori performed by Tsugaru Dance

12:15 to 12:45 p.m. — Folk songs performed by Satsuki Kai

1 to 1:30 p.m. — Matoi

1:35 to 2:05 p.m. — Odori performed by Kiyonomoto Ka-tsunami and Katsuno Kai

2:10 to 2:25 p.m. — Play performed by Tampopo

2:30 to 3 p.m. — Taiko performed by Shinnyo-en USA Temple

3:10 to 3:45 p.m. — Odori performed by Tsugaru Dance
